Generally, if a director’s debut film is a blockbuster hit, then his second would be an acid test. And director Karthick Subburaj has emerged unscathed in this test. Likewise, Siddharth has also come out successfully!
Siddharth goes to Madurai to learn about the dadas and rowdies in the area so that he could direct a story about their lives. The one-liner of Jigarthada is that he gets to meet dada Simhaa and his gang and starts penning a script based on their lives.
In Karthick Subburaj’s debut film Pizza, he had the audiences glued to their seats with his strong script; despite several features in the movie like ghost, love, horror and good acting. Similarly, the screenplay in Jigarthanda is also very taut. The movie is racy and at no point of time creates a boredom. Congrats to the director for making it possible once again.
Looks like the film has three heroes - Soddharth, Karunakaran and Simhaa – as all three carry the film forward with excellent acting. Karunakaran’s comedy is worth mentioning here. Jigarthanda could well be a ticket for Simha to turn into one of the most wanted villains in Kollywood. However, there is a lot of scope to improvise on Simhaa’s make-up. Siddharth has turned into the character and has not shown undue heroism, which makes him the best choice for the role.
Jigarthanda could well be a milestone in his career. Lakshmi Menon has done her role neatly.
As like the screenplay, the cinematography is also a major plus for this film. Gavemic U Ary has worked wonders with perfect colours which complement each frame. Santosh Narayan’s background score is excellent as well. Barring the length of the film which sags the narration, Jigarthanda is delicious.
